A total of 90 residents from families of farmers in Zamboanga del Sur province serve as beneficiaries of newly-built water system by a mining firm.
TVI Resource Development Philippines, Inc. (TVIRD) solved a 24-year long problem of Barangay Depore, Bayog residents after a completion of the water system funded by the mining firm brought access to basic drinking water in the community.
According to Lope Dizon, TVIRD community development officer, the water system can supply water up to 22,000 liters daily.
“The spring water is channeled from a reservoir, which ensures enough water supply,” Dizon explained in a company press release.
Dizon added that a one kilometer transmission pipe from the water reservoir was connected to a newly-established distribution pipeline in order to supply water to all of the residents.
With the help of the municipal government, TVRID’s initiative under its Community Development Project (CDP) completed the Depore Community Water System.
The farming community, though their president Segundino C. Dela Peña, Jr., expressed gratitude for the establishment of the water supply as they won’t have to endure a kilometer hike to fetch water.
“I am very thankful that now it’s very easy for us to get water,” Dela Peña explained. “As a father, I am now at peace knowing that our children will not get sick because of an unsafe water supply,” the grateful 45-year old Dela Peña added.
Prior to this project, the mining firm has also provided basic social services to its host communities.
TVIRD is a mining firm and is also currently operating the Agata Nickel Project in Agusan del Norte. It has an ongoing final mine rehabilitation for its gold and copper project in Zamboanga del Norte.
