Carmen Copper Corporation has augmented the water supply of Toledo City in Cebu through the Toledo City Water District (TCWD) as a way to ease the drought experienced by different barangays of the city.
The company, which is a subsidiary of Atlas Consolidated Mining and Development Corporation, supply different barangays of the city with 1,200 cubic meters or 1.2 million liters of water daily distributed by TCWD.
An emergency water delivery is also implemented in barangays Biga, Poog, Andres Soriano, and Media Once using a deployed water truck owned by the company adding 70,000 liters of free rationed clean water daily.
Through the TCWD, Carmen Copper annually supplies an average of 490,000 cubic meters of water to the community payed with subsidized rates by households, schools, offices, and commercial centers in Toledo City.
This water supply and Carmen Copper’s industrial and domestic requirements originates from the largest privately owned reservoirs in the country, the Malubog Dam.
Atlas Mining constructed the said dam in June 1970 with a daily portable water surplus capacity of 100,000 cubic meters.
Other social development projects initiated by Carmen Copper includes the installation of six aqua towers in six elementary schools in the city; and the implementation of water system projects in different host and neighboring barangays allowing residents to improve their health and sanitation while enhancing local economic activities.
All these are Carmen Copper’s effort in supporting the six Sustainable Development Goal of the United Nations – clean water and sanitation.
