Philippine Mining Development Corporation (PMDC) made a series of visits in the local government units in Tacloban City to ensure that responsible mining is being prioritized.
The visit was also in line with the agency’s plan to operate one of its tenements, the Hernani Chromite Project.
PMDC discussed with the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) relevant matters on responsible and environment-friendly operations and legal issues that the company must undertake.
The firm also talked with Environmental Management Bureau (EMB) Regional Office VIII. The discussion focused on the requirements and legal documents the PMDC must secure before the operation in Hernani Chromite Project starts.
PMDC also had talks with the Mines and Geosciences Bureau (MGB) regarding the tenement concerns and mining activity and regulations and matters related to the Hernani Chromite Project.
A public scoping and information drive was suggested to be done to promote responsible mining in the locality. This in line with the programs of the PMDC, which emphasizes that local constituents should be informed of these undertakings.
“The series of agency meetings and courtesy visits will positively pave the way for PMDC’s
delivery of its mandate in the utilization and development of the country’s mineral resources
through responsible mining. This will be made possible through the partnership with these
institutions that shall affect in the preservation of the environment and natural resources,
and in the development of sustainable communities in the locality,” PMDC was quoted in a statement.
