The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) Region 4A has appealed to the public for additional support on the DENR’s efforts to stop illegal logging in the region.
The appeal came after the DENR-Calabarzon Region impounded sawn lumber on February 9,2020 at the banks of the Kailogan River in Barangay Santa Catalina, Atimonan, Quezon, as reported in a BusinessMirror article.
Around 442 board feet of Red and White Lauan worth approximately P13, 279 were confiscated by the authorities. The lumber is in custody of Centro Calauag for safekeeping.
Meanwhile, authorities in Aurora, Baler also confiscated some 500 board feet of illegally cut lumber in Sitio Ilaya, Barangay Zabali.
Philippine Army’s 91st Infantry (Sinagtala) Battalion (91IB) and the Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office (PENRO) cooperated to respond to the given information that there were illegally cut logs in the area, according to the Philippine News Agency (PNA) report.
The logs were given to DENR for proper disposal.
