A juvenile red-backed sea-eagle was recently rescued in Bingawan town, Iloilo province.
A man only known as “Buknoy” turned over the eagle to the local government of Bingawan, according to the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR).
“In this time of crisis when communities are in lockdown, these birds freely savor the clean air as they fly around,” Francisco Milla Jr., DENR regional director for Western Visayas was quoted in a report.
Mayor Mark Palabrica and the Bingawan Municipal Environment and Natural Office handed over the eagle to the DENR’s Community Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO) in Barotac Nuevo town.
“We commend the vigilance of our communities who readily reported to the DENR any rescue they make of our wild animals. This is a big support to our biodiversity conservation efforts,” Milla added.
The eagle can be soon released to its natural habitat as it is “healthy and aggressive,” according to CENRO officials.
