Revenue of the Mines and Geoscience Bureau in the Caraga Region (MGB-13) reached PHP 2.14 billion in 2022 collected from mining companies across the region.
Operations from mining companies brought about PHP27.36 billion, a nine percent share of its Gross Regional Domestic Products, according to MGB-13’s 2022 Caraga Mineral Profile.
Meanwhile, the local government units garnered PHP 123.4 million through enacted local fees for mining activities in the area.
According to MGB-13, the mining companies engaged in different operations as follows: 19 metallic operations, four mineral processing plants, three industrial sand and gravel, one joint operating agreement, and one focused on special mines.
In Caraga’s five provinces, the operations of different mining companies are occurring in 1,310 barangays in 67 municipalities and six cities, covering around 50,130.93 hectares or 2.33 percent of Caraga Region’s total land area of 2,145,835 hectares.
Eight mining firms are based in Dinagat Islands, six are in Agusan del Norte, and four are in Agusan del Sur. Meanwhile, Surigao del Sur and Agusan del Sur both have five mining companies operating in their respective areas.
MGB-13 also mentioned that the total production value of the mining firms in Caraga was approximately PHP 85.2 million.
