PMSEA recognizes Filminera, PhilGold for five-year safety record

With zero injuries over a notable five-year period, The Philippine Mine Safety and Environment Association (PMSEA) has acknowledged the exemplary safety practices of two gold mining companies, Filminera Resources Corp. (Filminera) and Philippine Gold Processing & Refining during its 69th annual National Mine Safety and Environment Conference in Baguio City.

According to the Manila Standard, Filminera and PhilGold were honored for their outstanding safety record at the Masbate Gold Project site in Aroroy, Masbate, spanning 1,826 days, involving 32.3 million work hours as of November 16, 2023.

PMSEA highlighted the firms’ commitment to a “zero harm” policy, supported by a corporate culture of injury prevention and care among employees and contractors. The companies attributed their success to “robust and fit-for-purpose” Occupational Health, Safety, Social, and Environmental Management Systems, ensuring the safety and well-being of every employee across various shifts and rotations.

Filminera President, Cris Acosta, emphasized the need for continued vigilance in safety practices, acknowledging the fragility of the achievement and the constant commitment required.

PhilGold President Ryan Rusk underscored a collaborative approach to safety, involving executives, managers, employees, and contractors in proactively identifying and mitigating potential risks.

In addition to safety recognition, Filminera and PhilGold received honors for operational excellence. PhilGold was conferred the Safest Mineral Processing Award, and Filminera received the Platinum Achievement Award in the Presidential Mining Industry and Environmental Award category. Filminera also secured the second runner-up position in the First Aid Competition during the week-long event in November.
