Local Government Units (LGUs) in the Caraga Region, particularly Claver in Surigao del Norte and Cagdianao in Dinagat Islands, have directly benefited from the business taxes and regulatory fees paid by mining firms, contributing to the funding of their development projects.
Taganito Mining Corporation, in Claver, turned over PHP 72.2 million on January 19, representing local business tax and other regulatory fees.
In a separate report, the Cagdianao LGU acknowledged the PHP 29,571,035.18 payment from Cagdianao Mining Corporation – Nickel Asia Corporation on the same day.
Simultaneously, flood-hit families in Mati City, Davao Oriental, host communities of Hallmark Mining Corporation (HMC), have received essential aid through distribution activities.
Arvin Carlom, HMC community relations manager, stated that 284 families, or 1,704 individuals, were directly affected by flooding caused by heavy rains on January 18 and 19. The aid packages included rice, canned goods, noodles, milk, coffee, sugar, biscuits, hygiene kits, toothpaste, bath soaps, and detergent bars.
