The Department of Environment and Natural Resources–Environmental Management Bureau (DENR-EMB) has announced a public scoping for the proposed Mapawa Gold Project of Greenstone Resources Corporation (GRC) in Surigao del Norte.
The proposed mining project will cover areas in Barangays Mapawa, Capalayan, Quezon, Cabongbongan, and Trinidad in Surigao City; Barangay Mabuhay in the Municipality of Sison; and Barangay Himama-ug in the Municipality of Tagana-an.
The public scoping will be held on November 6, 2025, at 9AM at the Brgy. Mapawa Covered Court in Surigao City. The session marks the initial stage of the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) process for the project.
According to the EMB, the public scoping will allow the proponent to present an overview of the planned gold mine and gather public input on potential environmental and social impacts. Feedback collected will help define the scope and terms of reference for the project’s Environmental Impact Statement (EIS).
The EMB invited residents, organizations, and government agencies to take part in the public review.
