Semirara Mining and Power Corp. (SMPC) has received the Three Golden Arrow Award from the Institute of Corporate Directors (ICD) under the 2024 ASEAN Corporate Governance Scorecard (ACGS), reaffirming its leadership in responsible mining and corporate governance among publicly listed Philippine companies.

The recognition highlights SMPC’s sustained commitment to transparency, accountability, and ethical leadership in both its mining and power operations. The company has been a consistent Golden Arrow awardee since 2019, and for the third consecutive year, earned the prestigious Three Golden Arrows, one of the highest distinctions in corporate governance.

“We are deeply honored to receive this recognition from the Institute of Corporate Directors,” said SMPC President, Chief Operating Officer, and Chief Sustainability Officer Maria Cristina C. Gotianun. “At SMPC, good governance is the foundation of how we operate, serve our communities, and build a sustainable future for all.”

The Three Golden Arrows distinction places SMPC among the top-performing listed companies in the country and underscores how governance and sustainability can coexist with large-scale resource development. The company’s sustainability agenda is anchored on its 5Es framework — Education, Environment, Empowerment, Employment, and Emergency Preparedness & Resilience — designed to ensure that its mining operations create long-term socio-economic value.

The 2024 ACGS, aligned with the updated G20/OECD Principles of Corporate Governance, features new metrics on sustainability and resilience to reflect evolving global standards. SMPC’s continued inclusion under the revised framework demonstrates its adaptability and governance maturity amid the mining sector’s growing focus on ESG performance.

As the Philippines’ largest coal producer and a vertically integrated energy company, SMPC said it remains committed to maintaining world-class governance practices while contributing to national energy security and economic development.

How can stronger governance standards help mining companies balance profitability, environmental responsibility, and long-term community impact?
