Apex Mining Co. Inc. (APX) has temporarily suspended its mining operations in Davao de Oro after the magnitude 7.4 earthquake that struck offshore near Manay, Davao Oriental on October 10, 2025.

The company said the suspension was in compliance with an order from the Office of the Governor of Davao de Oro, following a series of aftershocks that prompted precautionary inspections by government authorities.

In a disclosure, Apex said all employees were safely evacuated from both underground and surface areas immediately after the quake. Its resident engineers and safety officers confirmed there were no reported injuries and no significant damage to major facilities. Initial assessments allowed limited operations to briefly resume, but subsequent directives from the local government required a full halt.

As of October 11, officials from the Mines and Geosciences Bureau (MGB) Region XI and the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) have completed on-site inspections. The company said it is now awaiting clearance from both agencies before resuming normal operations.

During the suspension period, Apex is carrying out essential safety work such as pumping water from underground levels and maintaining ventilation systems to prevent flooding and gas buildup.

The company assured stakeholders that it remains committed to prioritizing the welfare of its workers and complying fully with government safety protocols.
