To boost the use of clean energy in its mining operations in Davao de Oro, Apex Mining Co., Inc. has partnered with First Gen Corp., part of the Lopez Group, in a move towards sustainability.
The collaboration, reported by BusinessWorld, aims to provide stable and reliable energy for Apex Mining’s daily activities while reducing its carbon footprint, aligning with higher corporate responsibility.
The company will source energy from First Gen’s Mt. Apo Geothermal Power Plant in Kidapawan, Cotabato, showing its commitment to environmentally conscious energy practices.
Luis R. Sarmiento, Apex Mining’s CEO, said this initiative goes beyond compliance, positioning the company at the forefront of sustainable energy management. Using renewable resources effectively reduces the environmental impact of mining operations.
Apex Mining operates mainly at the Maco gold mine site in Davao de Oro, and this partnership signifies a shift towards greener energy sourcing.

In the first three quarters of 2023, Apex Mining allocated Php 89 million for its Environmental Protection and Enhancement Program (EPEP), a comprehensive program mandated by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) to ensure responsible management of resources within the mining company’s operations.
