The Hazard Reduction Program (HRP) of the Apo Land and Quarry Corp. (ALQC) is nearing its completion as the mining and quarry firm handed over the newly constructed drainage system in the landslide-affected areas in Naga City in Cebu.
The program is 82 percent completed according to ALQC, costing P 68 million as of February 2019.
The drainage system is part of the company’s HRP which started November last year. It aims to clear Sindulan and Tagaytay of dangerous debris from a landslide that struck the area last September 20.
Through a story published by SunStar.com, ALQC’s spokesperson Chito Maniago said that the new drainage system is critical in ensuring the overall safety and integrity of the area.
The clearing of hazard debris for the retaining wall is also complete as per Maniago.
Maniago also said in the same SunStar article the importance of Pangdan River’s unclogging in order to “restore the river’s original course.”
He added that the unclogging will result in bringing back the natural flow of the river which then can avoid inconvenient movements of water and hazardous debris to other areas near the already affected sitios.
ALQC was linked to the landslide as the company had mining rights to the affected area. However, they insisted operations there have not started yet by the time of the landslide.
