Carmen Copper Corporation, a Cebu-based mining firm, is celebrating its 450th milestone shipment of copper concentrate through a series of activities, including tree-planting, a feeding program, distribution of hygiene kits and rice, and a human mosaic at Sangi Port, Toledo City.
This lineup of activities was the mining firm’s gratitude to the community as they supported Carmen Copper’s advocacy towards responsible stewardship, said The Freeman in its report.
Carmen Copper Chief Operating Officer (COO) Yulo Perez said that more than 900 shipments of copper concentrate would be made in 10 years or more. These shipments would then create opportunities for communities, families, and the firm’s stakeholders.
Perez added that there are still reserves and resources that could be mined and that cooperation with communities is needed to achieve them.
In other developments, The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) identified the copper industry as one of the prominent industries for investment, together with automotive, IT, business process management, electronics, and aerospace.
Copper is an important metal in the energy shift away from fossil fuels, and with the recent urging in renewable energy (RE), copper could be used to connect wind turbines, solar cells, and energy networks.
Copper was also used in batteries for electric vehicles (EVs), motors, and charging equipment.
As a solely owned subsidiary of Atlas Consolidated Mining and Development Corporation, Carmen Copper has been providing copper concentrate in China, Japan, Vietnam, Malaysia, India, and Korea for the past 16 years.
And with the ongoing green transition, Carmen Copper continues to provide copper and gold to aid the change.
