The Chamber of Mines of the Philippines is confident in the Philippine mining sector’s potential for growth over time, emphasizing the mining industry as a crucial driver of economic recovery and national development, as long as it is allowed to flourish.
According to COMP officials, the government will continue to advance responsible and sustainable mining, and will not solely concentrate on mineral extraction but also on the extent of the mining industry’s impact on the integrity of the ecosystem and on the likelihood and well-being of communities.
COMP’s 19th Annual Mining Philippines 2023 International Conference and Exhibition opened with a comprehensive discussion on trends, developments, and innovations in the Philippine mining, quarrying, and mineral processing sector, which was participated by over 300 delegates from across the globe.
The event also features top mining firms and suppliers as they exhibit their current projects and prospects for industry development.
Both industry officials from the Philippines and Australia were present at the event, with Undersecretary Carlos Primo David reading the speech of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources Secretary Maria Antonia Yulo-Loyzaga, followed by a response from Australian Ambassador to the Philippines H.K. Yu.
In her speech, Ambassador H.K. Yu responded that the objectives of the two countries are aligned, and it has a great opportunity to collaboratively explore the industries more.
With the country’s rich mineral resources, long-term economic growth and sustainable progress are foreseeable in the future, Secretary Pascual said. Opportunities in mining exploration, mineral processing, green metals processing, and other value-added downstream mineral activities are also present, he added.
Meanwhile, DENR Undersecretary Analiza Rebuelta-Teh mentioned that minerals and metals will be essential in producing raw materials for technologies and their growth will shift demand patterns across mining communities.
