In celebration of Philippine Environment Month, Dinapigue Mining Corporation (DMC) kicked off June with a community plogging activity that gathered over 600 kilograms of litter along a three kilometer stretch in Dinapigue, Isabela.
The initiative, which was a combination of jogging with litter collection, involved a wide array of people. This included DMC employees, local residents, and representatives from the local government. The event, reported on a post on DMC’s Facebook page, was part of the company’s ongoing advocacy for environmental stewardship and sustainable practices in its host communities.
According to the post, a total of 617 kilograms of waste- which was primarily plastic packaging, PET bottles, tin cans, and styrofoam-was collected during the cleanup. Participants jogged and picked up trash along designated areas, which helped raise awareness of proper waste management and the dangers of plastic pollution.
One of the local leaders who joined the activity, Barangay Captain Concepcion Donato, emphasized the community’s support for such initiatives. “Simple po ang mensahe namin mula sa communities – ang maayos na pangangasiwa ng basura ay pagmamalasakit sa kalikasan, kami sa mga barangay gusto namin pangalagaan ang kapaligiran at sama-sama kami sa ganitong pagkakataon, susuporta kami basta para sa proteksyon ng kalikasan, ” Donato said in a story published by Business Mirror.
The plogging activity marks the start of a long series of activities organized by DMC in observance of Environment Month. The company, a subsidiary of Nickel Asia Corporation, has previously launched various other community-based programs focused on reforestation, coastal cleanup, and ecological awareness.
