Operating arm of Global Ferronickel Holdings, Inc. (FNI) Platinum Group Metals Corporation (PGMC) has temporarily suspended its Cagdianao operations following the policy directions of the Surigao del Norte local government units, as well as the growing concern on the spread of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in the country.
PGMC received a message last April 6 from Surigao del Norte Provincial Governor Francisco T. Matugas to temporarily suspend its operations, according to a report.
Municipality of Claver Mayor Georgia D. Gokiangee also requested for the halt of operations to secure Claver and Surigao del Norte.
“As a good corporate citizen, we comply with all rules and regulations, and as a good neighbor, we listen to the concerns of the local community,” FNI President Dante R. Bravo was quoted in a report.
“We also stand together with the Surigaonon people and the whole country in the fight against this pandemic,” he added.
PGMC continues to strictly follow quarantine and sanitation protocols consistent with scientific and regulatory standards, and implement its business contingency plan.
The firm has implemented a skeleton staff set up for the maintenance and relief operations.
It has also set aside P10 million for buying, re-packing, and distribution of relief assistance to 14 barangays of the Municipality of Claver.
Around 10,995 individuals have received essential items from the company. Another 65,000 individuals are in the pipeline as beneficiaries.
