Tragedy struck in General Nakar, Quezon, as four miners lost their lives in a landslide triggered by the recent heavy rains.
GMA News reported that the incident took place in Sitio Angelo in Barangay Umiray. Preliminary investigations determined it to have occurred in the early hours of Wednesday, past 4 a.m.
Officials from the Quezon Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) have inferred that the ongoing rains may have played a role in causing the landslide.
Following a diligent search and rescue effort, the remains of the four miners were located and later transported to Camp Capinpin in Tanay, Rizal for further formalities.
The identities of the deceased miners remain undisclosed by the PDRRMO at this time. Interestingly, the area, specifically the village, has been recognized for its small-scale mining endeavors predominantly focused on gold extraction.
