Hallmark Mining Corp, (HMC) has reaffirmed its commitment to protecting the Mt. Hamiguitan Range Wildlife Sanctuary while defending the livelihoods of more than 1,800 workers and thousands more in supporting industries.
In a statement issued Wednesday, HMC addressed concerns from the Provincial Government of Davao Oriental over the possible environmental impact of mining activities at its Pujada Nickel Project in Mati City.
“Hallmark Mining Corporation understands and shares the deep concern of the Provincial Government of Davao Oriental for the protection of our environment, especially the Mt. Hamiguitan Range Wildlife Sanctuary — a symbol of life and pride for all Oriental Dabawenyos,” the company said.
The company reiterated its pledge to “responsible mining” and detailed its Environmental Protection and Enhancement Program (EPEP), which includes siltation ponds, collector sumps, active monitoring by a Multi-Partite Monitoring Team, and nature-based solutions designed to preserve biodiversity and prevent harm to ecosystems.
HMC emphasized the socio-economic dimension of its operations, noting that mining sustains thousands of families.
“Behind every job is a parent, a student, a dream,” the company said, highlighting its efforts to maintain steady employment while investing in the welfare of host communities.
Through its Social Development and Management Program (SDMP) and Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) projects, HMC said it supports education, healthcare, and basic services in nearby barangays. The company also cited its contribution of hundreds of millions of pesos in taxes and fees that fund local and national initiatives.
HMC called for “dialogue, cooperation, and shared responsibility” as key to balancing environmental protection and economic development in Davao Oriental. “Instead of division, let us find unity — to keep Davao Oriental thriving, green, and full of life for generations to come,” the statement read.
