Hallmark Mining Corporation said nickel produced from its operations in Mati City, Davao Oriental is now part of the global supply chain for electric vehicle (EV) batteries, highlighting how demand for the metal has shifted alongside the energy transition.
In a report by the Philippine News Agency, Hallmark Mining said, “Mati is now part of the global supply chain powering electric vehicles and renewable energy systems, highlighting the Philippines’ growing role in the clean energy transition.”
The company noted that nickel, which was once primarily used for stainless steel production, has taken on a more strategic role as EV adoption accelerates worldwide. “Once prized mainly for stainless steel, nickel is now a critical EV battery component,” the report quoted the company as saying.
Hallmark Mining said the growing use of nickel in battery technology places Philippine nickel within a broader international market supporting decarbonization and cleaner transport systems.
The company added that developments in battery manufacturing have increased global demand for nickel, positioning mining output from Mati as part of supply chains linked to electric vehicles and renewable energy applications.
As global demand for battery minerals continues to grow, how can the Philippines balance the economic opportunities from nickel mining with the need for responsible and sustainable mineral development?
Hallmark Mining Corporation is managed by Asiaticus Management Corporation (AMCOR), which is part of the Triplex Group. The company is led by Pedro O. Tan, who serves as president and chairman. HMC is involved in nickel exploration and development in Mindanao and, together with Austral-Asia Link Mining Corp, operates the Pujada Nickel Project, with project management handled by AMCOR.
