Authorities caught two suspects red-handed as they were scaling and filling illegally-logged Lauan lumber in Barangay Adlay, Carrascal town, Surigao del Sur on Sunday.
Personnel from Carrascal Municipal Police Station (MPS) and the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) confiscated 3,000 board feet of Lauan lumber worth P54,000, according to a report.
The suspects are still being investigated to know the origin and owner of the seized forest products.
The suspects will be charged with violation of Presidential Decree No. 705 otherwise known as the Forestry Reform Code of the Philippines.
The confiscated forest products were handed over to the DENR-CENRO in Cantilan town.
Caraga Police Regional Office 13 (PRO 13) Regional Director Brig. Gen. Joselito T. Esquivel, Jr. said that they will continue to go after small or large-scale environmental offenders together with DENR and other government agencies. He added that environmental laws are strictly implemented.
