Ipilan Nickel Corporation (INC), a subsidiary of Global Ferronickel Holdings Inc. (FNI), has applied for an amendment to its Environmental Compliance Certificate (ECC), which, if granted, will allow it to increase its production limit from 1.5 million WMT to 3 million WMT.
The planned production increase is projected to provide significant advantages for the region, including enhanced job prospects, a greater allocation to the Social Development Management Program (SDMP), increased royalty shares for Indigenous Peoples in both host and affected barangays, as well as higher tax revenues for the government.
In a report by Philippine Resources, FNI President Dante R. Bravo said prospects continue to be bright for INC with its operations in full stride.
INC marked a strong start to 2025 by successfully shipping nickel ore to China, signaling a significant milestone for the company and the Philippine mining sector.
This shipment is the first of many expected in 2025, as INC plans to send a total of 40 vessels throughout the year. The shipments are forecast to include a mix of 52% medium-grade and 48% low-grade nickel ore.
Additionally, this early 2025 shipment not only highlights INC’s commitment to expanding its production but also underscores its role in contributing to the Philippines’ growing mining industry and its global market presence.
Philippine Resources reported that on January 17, 2025, the MV Maple Unity left the INC anchorage area in Brooke’s Point, Palawan, carrying 60,117 wet metric tons (WMT) of medium-grade nickel ore with a 1.40% nickel content.
INC, operating under a Mineral Production Sharing Agreement (MPSA) with the Philippine government, holds exclusive mining rights in the Municipality of Brooke’s Point, encompassing 2,835 hectares. Of this, 260 hectares have been partially declared as a mining area.
In 2024, INC secured its Certificate Precondition from the National Commission on Indigenous Peoples (NCIP) and is in the process of renewing its local business permit, with support from the local government.
The company remains committed to responsible mining practices, focusing on sustainable development and ensuring the benefits of its operations are maximized for all stakeholders.
