The Mines and Geosciences Bureau (MGB), in partnership with Avinnovz Technologies, Inc., conducted a two-day training on September 23-24, to enhance technical capacity in mining regulation and environmental monitoring.
The program introduced personnel from several key divisions — Mining Technology, Mining Tenements Management, Mine Safety, Environment and Social Development, and Lands Geological Survey — to practical applications of drone technology for mining regulation and environmental monitoring. Using DJI Matrice 4 Series drones, participants learned geospatial data gathering, site inspection techniques, and aerial information analysis.
Training sessions began at the MGB Multipurpose Building, where staff attended lectures, studied safety protocols, and practiced mission planning through simulators. The following day, they deployed to Teresa Marble Corporation’s mining site in Rizal for supervised drone flights, mapping sections of the mine and collecting imagery for environmental assessment.
By developing in-house drone expertise, MGB is expanding its ability to integrate modern tools into its technical and regulatory functions. This initiative underscores the agency’s continuing effort to promote responsible mining practices, strengthen environmental safeguards, and ensure compliance with national standards.
