Various organizations gathered together for a collaborative effort in conducting relief operations for the victims affected by the eruption of Mayon Volcano in Albay, a statement issued by the Philippine Nickel Industry Association Inc. (PNIA) said.
The PNIA, a collective comprising of nickel mining companies operating across the country, is joined by associations including Land Rover Club of the Philippines, Anseca Development Corp., MRMJ Earth Movers Corp., IPM Development Corp., and RONIN Motorcycle Club in delivering about P1.4 million worth of relief goods, which accounted for 1,000 hygiene kits and 2,250 food packs.
The PNIA included slippers, bath soaps, face masks, antibiotics, children’s vitamins, and sacks of used and new clothes in its relief packages that will be given to 19,000 displaced families (or 75,000 individuals).
The group handed over the relief items earlier this month through the assistance of the provincial government of Albay, as well as regional representatives of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) and the Mines and Geosciences Bureau, DENR’s mining regulating unit.
“We express our heartfelt sympathies to the displaced communities brought by the continuous eruption of Mount Mayon, and the association is ready if additional assistance shall be needed for our fellow countrymen in Albay,” PNIA President Dante Bravo said.
Bravo added the entire mining industry is always ready to help the country in times of catastrophe, supporting government initiatives geared toward sustainable development and nation building.
“The Philippine Nickel Industry Association reiterates its commitment to participate in programs of [the] government, especially during calamities and disasters,” Bravo continued.
Formed in 2012, the PNIA is a nonprofit organization advocating strong partnership between the government and the private sector in improving the nickel mining industry through balancing economic, environmental, and social objectives.
The PNIA currently houses Global Ferronickel Inc., CTP Construction and Mining Corp., Citinickel Mines and Development Corp., Carrascal Nickel Corp., DMCI Mining Corp., Marcventures Mining and Development Corp., Adnama/Oriental Vision Mining Philippines Corp., and PAX Libera Mining, Inc.
