The small-scale mining sector in the Philippines may soon conduct their transactions online as the Mines and Geoscience Bureau (MGB) prepares to launch a new Knowledge Management (KM) Platform.
The platform is a system for small-scale mining transactions, including registration, permit processing, and compliance monitoring into one online platform to lessen the manual paperwork process.
MGB partnered with the Artisanal Gold Council (AGC) under the PlanetGOLD Philippines Project to test and introduce the system during a workshop held from July 30 to August 1, 2025 at Quezon City.
Personnel from MGB regional offices, along with AGC and the Department of Environment and Natural Resources-FOreign Assisted and Special Projects Service (DENR-FASPS) representatives.
They tested and evaluated the performance and usability of the platform. Regional representatives will play a significant role in expanding awareness of the platform.
The system will undergo further adjustments based on feedback from these trials, with additional test runs before its release by the year’s end.
Will digital tools reshape the way small-scale miners and regulators work together in the years ahead?
