OceanaGold (Philippines), Inc. (OGP) is reinforcing its dedication to community development through major investments in education and cultural preservation in Nueva Vizcaya and Quirino.
As part of its cultural initiatives, 44 young individuals from Barangay Nantawakan recently graduated from OGP’s Indigenous Peoples (IP) Revitalization Program. Launched in February, the program aims to preserve indigenous heritage by providing youth with hands-on training in traditional dances and ethnic musical instruments. Experts from the Ifugao Intangible Heritage and Performing Arts Society (IIHPAS) led the sessions, ensuring the transfer of cultural knowledge to the next generation.
Punong Barangay Hon. Fidel Bunoy expressed appreciation for OGP’s commitment to preserving indigenous traditions and urged parents to continue supporting their children in keeping these cultural practices alive. This latest graduation adds to the growing impact of the IP Revitalization Program, which has now reached 249 graduates across nine barangays since 2022.
Complementing its cultural efforts, OGP is also making significant contributions to local education through a PHP 12.32 million grant. This investment includes PHP 5.35 million worth of scientific equipment distributed to 22 senior high schools offering STEM subjects in Nueva Vizcaya and Quirino. Additionally, OGP turned over a PHP 6.97 million two-story multi-purpose building to Eastern Nueva Vizcaya National High School in Didipio, Kasibu, Nueva Vizcaya, to support the Humanities and Social Sciences (HESS) program. Barangay Didipio, through its 2023 and 2024 Social Development and Management Program (SDMP) fund, also contributed to the building’s development.
Through these combined initiatives, OGP continues to demonstrate how corporate partnerships with the Department of Education and local stakeholders can shape future leaders while preserving and celebrating cultural identity.
