The Mines and Geosciences Bureau (MGB) said the OceanaGold Philippines Inc. must submit deficient requirements to continue operating in the country.
According to a ManilaTimes report, the mining firm’s application contained irregularities that slowed down the approval process, particularly in its renewal application to its Financial and Technical Assistance Agreement (FTAA).
“[Environment] Secretary [Roy] Cimatu endorsed favorably the renewal of [the application of] OceanaGold to the Office of the President. But [the latter] found a deficiency [in it],” MGB Director Wilfredo Moncano was quoted saying in the report.
It was also suggested that the mining firm talk to the National Commission on Indigenous People (NCIP) to discuss the issues regarding the expansion of the Bugkalot tribe’s ancestral domain near their Didipio gold and copper mine operations in Nueva Vizcaya.
