Platinum Group Metals Corporation (PGMC), Global Ferronickel Holdings Inc.’s (FNI) operating arm based in Surigao, received the Presidential Mineral Industry Environmental Award (PMIEA) for the Surface Mining Operation Category for the second time.
The award was given during the 68th annual National Mines and Safety Conference in Baguio City.
PMIEA is the highest award given to a mining company by the Awards Selection Committee headed by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) and the Philippine Mine Safety and Environment Association.
“The honor reflects our people’s collective commitment to exceed expectations, to be the change we wish to see, and to leave our communities better than we found them. All our employees and stakeholders share in this award as much as the responsibility to uphold its ideals,” PGMC Senior Vice President Carlo A. Matilac stated.
PGMC invested about P42 million in its pandemic response and an additional P14 million in disaster relief efforts in the wake of Typhoon Odette’s devastation.
Engr. Matilac added that they are optimistic about addressing climate change, energy transition, and human betterment with the abundance of talent in the mining sector.
In October 2022, PGMC, as an Integrated Management System (IMS), earned ISO certifications for its Quality Management System (ISO 9001:2015), Occupational Health and Safety Management System (ISO 45001:2018), and Environmental Management System (ISO 14001:2015).
