The national government’s new minerals accounting program was put to test at the Taganito Mining Corporation (TMC) with the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) in the lead.
The said program aims to ensure the order and proper handling of the country’s mineral resources allowing the government a way of monitoring the state of the mining sector and other industries related to it.
TMC, a subsidiary of Nickel Asia Corp., was chosen to be the venue for the pilot testing of the minerals accounting program.
Data from the company’s mine site and mineral processing plant, the THPAL, located in Surigao del Norte’s town of Claver were gathered by PSA.
Meanwhile, in a press release, PSA recognizes the importance of the mining industry in the country’s economic development.
The agency acknowledges the capability of the mining companies to contribute to the country’s foreign-exchange earnings through exports while also providing employment to residents of their host communities.
Other government agencies including the National Economic Development Authority (NEDA), and the Department of Environment and Natural Resources and the Mines and Geosciences Bureau (DENR-MGB) also sent representatives to take part in the program test.
