Nueva Vizcaya’s provincial government updated their tax collection programs and policies, including tax system payments, hitting big companies especially those in the mining and quarry industries.

The said update aims to turn delinquent big companies into law-abiding firms while at the same time maximizing the province’s tax collection among major companies which, aside from mining and quarrying, also includes the telecommunications and power-generating industries.

Province treasurer for Nueva Vizcaya Rhoda Moreno said that in terms of Real Property Tax (RPT) collection in 2017, the mining towns of Kasibu and Quezon bested all other 1,400 municipal local government units, placing first and second respectively.

Aside from OceanaGold Philippines in Kasibu town and FCF Minerals Corp. in Quezon town, it was also revealed that some of the big companies operating in the province are Casecnan Multi-Purpose Irrigation and Power Project in Alfonso Castañeda town, and Globe, Smart and PLDT telecommunications subsidiaries among others

Meanwhile, the provincial government will also put new tax policies for the extraction of sand and gravel which is also eyed as a major sources of income for Nueva Vizcaya.

To ensure contractors comply with their tax obligations, contractual guards were recently hired to oversee sand and gravel quarry areas. Contractors are also asked to settle financial obligations to the provincial government first before being allowed to extract.

These measures and the implementation of new tax policies will improve the year-after-year increase in tax collection in the quarry sector, the provincial government of Nueva Vizcaya believes.

Regarding the concerns of tax paying citizens of Nueva Vizcaya, Moreno clarified in a report by Manila Standard that tax codes and other local revenue tax issuances are intended for big companies doing their business in the province.
