As part of its approach to responsible mining, Silangan Mindanao Mining Co., Inc. (SMMCI) posted that it gave Barangay Macalaya’s officials full access to its mine, power, and safety facilities.
The officials, led by Barangay Captain Archelle Ongayo, began with a safety orientation.
SMMCI Mine Superintendent Engineer Gonzales outlined policies before taking the group across several key sites.
Surface tours included the process plant area under construction. Officials learned how ore will be processed when operations start.
At the High Voltage Switchyard, engineers explained future power sourcing and distribution.
Barangay leaders saw how stable electricity will support production.
The group also visited the Tailings Storage Facility (TSF) in Sison. TSF staff discussed containment, water management, and environmental protection.
They were also given the chance to visit the underground site, where they saw two completed drives, the Shaft 2 link and the South ore perimeter. These upgrades improve ventilation and safer access for workers.
Lastly, they visited the refuge chamber, a secure area for emergencies.
Throughout the tour, SMMCI addressed the queries of the officials directly on-site.
The company said that the full day visit reflected its policy of transparency and community partnership.
SMMCI remains optimistic that events like this will help the Silangan Project’s growth.
