The Philippine Carrascal Nickel Corp. (CNC) and Chinese firm Guangxi Beibu Gulf Port Group Co., Ltd. have signed a strategic cooperation agreement that will allow nickel ore trade using the Beibu port.
The agreement, signed by CNC chairman Xu Zhenqiang and Beibu Gulf’s Zhou Xiaoxi, includes using international logistics network nodes building, lateritic nickel ore procurement, and freight routes.
This will ensure a long-term and stable supply of 1.5 million tons laterite nickel ore from the Philippines to China.
Beibu Gulf Shipping Co., Ltd., will be the carrier of the nickel ore.
Guangxi Beibu Gulf International Port Group Co., Ltd. is a Chinese firm that manages and operates large-scale, modern terminals with an inter-model logistics system along the Beibu Gulf.
Philippine company CNC is involved in the mining and export of nickel ore particularly laterite nickel ore, limonite, and saprolite in the 4,567 hectares of land under the Carrascal mineral production sharing agreement in Surigao del Sur.
This agreement is part of a number of projects signed between Philippine enterprises and Chinese companies during the China (Guangxi)-Philippines Business Matching Seminar for Entrepreneurs at the Makati Shangri-La.
The Philippines is Guangxi’s fifth largest trade partner among ASEAN countries.
Other agreements signed include partnerships in port cooperation, hydropower engineering contracting, direct tourist charter flights, and tourism strategic cooperation.
